Saturday loves: breakfast at Marchesi and the design at Studio Achille Castiglioni

A good dose of optimism for the upcoming spring and a quick polish to the bike and the sunglasses before cycling to a Saturday morning in the Magenta and Castello area. The streets of Milan flow with the rhythm of life in the heart (as Lucio Battisti used to sing) and I keep a safe distance from the noisy traffic of Milan: on Saturday mornings all I need is the peace of mind. Better if it is accompanied by two good excuses to pamper myself: a delicious breakfast at Pasticceria Marchesi and a visit to the Studio Museum Achille Castiglioni.
This is really happiness prêt-à-porter!

Pasticceria Marchesi
This is an institution in Milan! It is one of the most historic and authentic patisserie and it is among the few in town where you can eat a slice of panettone (typical Christmas dessert) during all months of the year. But I don't want to stifle the warm air between candied fruit and raisins of a Christmas cake and I would rather opt for the classic Italian breakfast based on a creamy cappuccino and a delicious brioche. Trust me, once tried you'll wish to start every day of your life with this excellent breakfast!

Pasticceria Marchesi

Opening hours: Tuesday - Saturday: 7:30 to 20:00, Sunday: 8:30 - 13, closed Monday

Studio Achille Castiglioni
Saturday morning continues in the nearby Piazza Castello, with a visit to the Studio Museum Achille Castiglioni, another institution not only in Milan but in the world of the Italian design and architecture. Giovanna, the daughter of the great Castiglioni, welcome us in the Studio and she guide the visitors in bright environments, among memories, notes, drawings, prototypes, drafting machines, photographs of his famous father.
During the tour (it takes about 1 hour) you can see many of the Castiglioni's most famous creations, such as lamps Arco , Parentesi or the Cocoon (for sale at Flosand many other objects and industrial design inventions. It's curious to hear anecdotes about the creation of these great works and it is fascinating to discover some of the traits of Castiglioni's thoughts, his genius, his ideas of simplicity and rationality and his attention to young students who exhorted saying: "if you are not curious , forget it. "
But do not let you miss a Saturday morning and come and look around in this corner of Milanese design and history. Surely you'll come out like me, amazed and holding a few brochures and the address of the closer Flos retailer.
